Adsorption of gaseous p-xylene and m-xylene on NaY, KY, and BaY zeolites: Part 1. Adsorption equilibria of pure xylenes

1995

Abstract Isothermal and isobaric adsorptions of p -xylene and m -xylene on NaY, KY, and BaY are studied by thermogravimetry between 25°C and 400°C, and 10 Pa and 1014 Pa. At low filling BaY shows a stronger affinity for xylenes than the other zeolites. At high temperature and low pressure its adsorption capacity is greater than those of NaY and KY. These two zeolites have a similar behavior and adsorb more m -xylene than p -xylene. At low temperature and high pressure KY adsorbs p -xylene like NaY and m -xylene like BaY, and, unlike NaY, the adsorption capacities of KY and BaY are higher for p -xylene than for m -xylene. The substitution of K + or Ba 2+ for Na + decreases the adsorption cap…

PURINE AND PYRIMIDINE NUCLEOTIDES IN THE BRAIN OF NORMAL AND CONVULSANT RATS

1969

— Purine and pyrimidine nucleotides were measured in the brain of normal and electroshocked rats after chromatographic separation on ion-exchange resin of mono-, di- and tri-phosphorylated derivatives. CMP, IMP and NAD did not show any significant quantitative change. Adenine nucleotides showed an abrupt change followed by a rapid return to the control value. GTP was the only purine nucleotide exhibiting a relatively slow return to its starting concentration. The greatest percentage increase after electroshock was observed in UMP, which returned to its control value only after 5 min; UDPCoenzymes (i.e. UDPA plus UDPG) showed a relatively small drop during the development of the seizure and …

Neutralization of acid and base solutions by Reverse Electrodialysis with Bipolar Membranes: a sustainable way to recover energy

2020

The large amount of acidic wastewaters produced in various industrial processes can have a large economic and environmental impact. Companies producing waste acid solutions have to send them to specific sites for the neutralization with alkaline solutions. However, efforts have been devoted so far to promote the acid recovery or its reuse. In the perspective of a more circular manufacturing approach, the present work proposes for the first time the use of the novel Bipolar Membrane Reverse Electrodialysis technology as a viable on-site way to convert the chemical energy associated to the pH gradient of waste acid/base solutions into electrical energy. Bipolar Membrane Reverse Electrodialysi…

Learning Research Methods and Processes via Sharing Experience in a BLOG

2006

The goal is to increase knowledge about different research methods that have been employed in the information technology field by supporting the information exchange, collaboration, and cooperation between researchers. Well-designed, well-told stories can help others learn from past situations to respond more effectively in future situation. A blog is presented where PhD students and researchers are invited to collaborate by providing their stories, reading and commenting existing stories. This infrastructure allows researchers and PhD students to write the contents posing questions and finding answers on the relationship between research process and research results.

Inhibition of in vitro reconstitution of rotavirus transcriptionally active particles by anti-VP6 monoclonal antibodies

1994

International audience; Six monoclonal antibodies specific for the major capsid protein of rotavirus, VP6, previously characterized, were tested in a biological assay for their capacity to block the transcriptase activity associated with the single-shelled particles. The results showed that two MAbs (RV-50 and RV-133), specific for distinct antigenic sites, were able to block the transcription when they were incubated with a purified baculovirus-expressed group A VP6, prior to the reconstitution of the single-shelled particles from the cores, suggesting that at least two domains are involved in active single-shelled particle reconstitution. The results obtained previously from immunochemist…

Modelling the transport of carbonic acid anions through anion-exchange membranes

2003

Electrodiffusion of carbonate and bicarbonate anions through anion-exchange membranes (AEM) is described on the basis of the Nernst /Planck equations taking into account coupled hydrolysis reactions in the external diffusion boundary layers (DBLs) and internal pore solution. The model supposes local electroneutrality as well as chemical and thermodynamic equilibrium. The transport is considered in three layers being an anion exchange membrane and two adjoining diffusion layers. A mechanism of

A SIM-MOF: Three-Dimensional Organisation of Single-Ion Magnets with Anion-Exchange Capabilities

2014

The formation of a metal-organic framework (MOF) with nodes that have single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour has been achieved by using mononuclear lanthanoid analogues, also known as single-ion magnets (SIMs), which enormously simplifies the challenging issue of making SMM-MOFs. Here we present a rational design of a family of MOFs, [Ln(bipyNO)4](TfO)3⋅x solvent (Ln=Tb (1); Dy (2); Ho (3); Er (4); TfO=triflate), in which the lanthanoid centres have an square-antiprismatic coordination environment suitable for SIM behaviour. Magnetic measurements confirm the existence of slow magnetic relaxation typical of SMMs, which has been rationalised by means of a radial effective charge model. In add…
